SERIOUS CONCERNS
1. TRAFFIC
The project area is situated in one of the most physically challenged and choked transportation corridors in
the City of Los Angeles .
• East: Bordered by Barham Boulevard, which faces near gridlock conditions throughout many hours of
the day.
• West: Lankershim Boulevard , which is currently called on to act as the sole connector route between the
101 freeway and the east-bound 134 freeway. There is currently no freeway connector from the westbound
101 to the eastbound 134 freeway.
• South: Cahuenga Pass and Ventura Boulevard, which are beyond traffic capacity at many times and face
near gridlock conditions.
• North: The Los Angeles River, which creates a natural boundary and limits the ability to move traffic east
and west. There is currently no freeway connector from the westbound 101 to the eastbound 134 freeway.
2. CAMPO De CAHUENGA – 1.4 million sq. ft. on less than 10 acres.
This project area is situated at the MTA site at Lankershim Blvd. adjacent to Universal City. The Campo de
Cahuenga is one of the most historic sites in America. It is commonly referred to as the birthplace of
California – the site where Mexico (represented by Pico) capitulated to the United States (represented by
Fremont ) and the place where the American vision and dream of manifest destiny became a reality. It is also
a site of historic significance to Native Americans in California and a site believed to be filled with
subterranean artifacts of pre-Spanish Colonial, Spanish Colonial, Mexican and early American rule in
California.
3. UNIVERSAL MASTER VISION PLAN: An addition of approximately 1 million sq. ft. of residential and
commercial development.
The project area is situated adjacent to residential communities and small business corridors that are
already severely impacted by traffic and traffic patterns throughout their community. The vision set forth in the
proposed plan would serve to urbanize this sub-urban community.
4. VISUAL BLIGHT:
The Working Group believes that the proposed projects will severely impact both the views and the property
values not only for those living in the hills but also for those living in the flats and will cause irreparable short
and long-term damage to the surrounding communities.
