Universal / MTA Project
Community Working Group
The Development (Overview)

The MTA site is currently the home to an MTA bus turn-around, a
transit stop for the Metro Subway and to the most historic site in the
western United States, Campo de Cahuenga. Universal Studios
across the street is a 450 acre property that is home to a movie and
television studio, the City Walk, a number of production companies
and a slew of famous movies sets.
The Coalition (What We Do)

The Working Group was formed in late 2006 in anticipation of this
project and has been studying and talking about both the
development and its effects on the surrounding communities.
(Mission)

The Universal/MTA Community Working Group is a coalition of
neighborhood groups and Homeowners Associations that
geographically encircle Universal Studios and the MTA site. The
purpose of this coalition is to enter into a dialog with the developers
of these sites and to help create a common vision that would be
beneficial for both the developers and for the community at large.

The project is planned at the current MTA / Universal City parking lot and the historic Campo
de Cahuenga.  The proposal calls for….

·                    1.47 million square feet of new commercial and residential space

·                    Office towers (up to 24 stories tall)

·                    34 story (445 feet tall) condominium & hotel tower

·                    Parking structures (up to ten levels of parking)

·                    More than 4500 parking stalls

·                    No additional parking for MTA commuters

·                    Thousands of additional vehicles driving through your neighborhood each day

·                    Large new production and post-production facilities

·                    New “supergraphic” or other large scale animated and non-animated signage.

·                    Possible “alteration and or removal of non-historic features of the Campo de Cahuenga site” (one of
the most historic sites in America and the birthplace of California).

·                    New retails space, new loading docks and more……

·                    All of this scheduled for completion in the next three years!
